LG G4 could pack a 2K display, 16-megapixel camera and Snapdragon 808

Hardware info from a benchmarking app may reveal what's lurking inside LG's next flagship phone.

We're approaching the time of year when we're expecting a new flagship phone from LG, and if info from a GFXBench test run are to be believed, the rumored LG G4 may pack an intriguing sec of specs.

Details for a phone with the model number LG-F500 (Korean G3s were LG-F400) have appeared in the benchmarking app's database, showing Android 5.1 and a laundry list of high-end hardware.

Snapdragon 808 rears its head in an unannounced LG smartphone

Most interestingly, there's a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor running the show — that's a six-core CPU consisting of two high-power Cortex-A57 cores and four low-power A53s. With the same number of low-power cores as a Snapdragon 810, paired with fewer high-power cores, the 808 should be less power-hungry than the 810. Snapdragon 808 also runs an Adreno 418 GPU, which appears to sit somewhere around the level of the Adreno 420 used in the Snapdragon 805.

Other notables include 2.8GB of RAM detected (out of a total of 3GB, most likely), 23GB of storage (again, likely the available storage from a 32GB total) and a 2560x1440 Quad HD screen resolution. The screen size is reported as being 5.5 inches, though detecting screen size on a device through software isn't always 100 percent accurate.

Cameras are detected as a 15.9-megapixel unit around the back and an 8-megapixel front-facer, both of which would be sizeable upgrades from last year's G3.

All this proves is that someone ran these benchmarks on a device matching this description, so we don't know for sure that it's an LG G4, but the model numbers and specs line up with an upcoming high-end device, and we're about due a new LG flagship. Reports from the Korean press suggest we could see the phone arrive as soon as late April.
