Samsung has named a new president of mobile communications in Dongjin Koh, who was previously head of the company's mobile research and development arm. Koh will be heading up the company's handset business in place of J.K. Shin, who will still play a big role in Samsung's overall mobile division. From Reuters:
Samsung Group, in its annual personnel appointments announcement, said Dongjin Koh will take over as president of the mobile communications business from J.K. Shin, who will remain head of the overall mobile division for Samsung and focus on long-term strategy and developing new growth businesses.
The move comes following the struggling performance of Samsung's smartphone business over the past year or so under Shin's leadership. Presumably, Samsung is hoping that a fresh face will help to turn around sliding market share and profits from the division. Shin has headed up the company's smartphone business since 2011.
