Huawei Watch speaker gets enabled in a test build... for at least one owner

One lucky Huawei Watch owner has taken to Reddit to say that the speaker on his watch is now active thanks to a test build he received. According to his post, this test build is Android 6.0.1, and Android Wear version 1.4. He noted that his watch is part of a beta group, so odds are that you aren't going to see this on your watch just yet.

It's been documented before that the Huawei Watch had a speaker that was not active, and everyone was left wondering when it would be turned on. This is not the only watch that has a speaker inside, as the Moto 360 2015 also has a speaker hole. The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE was supposed to launch with the speaker active, before it was ultimately cancelled. From the post on Reddit:

A quick test before work showed that the speaker indeed works. So far I see that you can set a ringtone for phone calls and making phone calls on the watch itself works. Having text-to-speech is annoying because it reads out the time and any menu you go into. I wish it would only read out my notifications at user specified times.

While there is no official word from Huawei about this update yet, we can hope this means it is one step closer to being released. Does having an active speaker in your watch matter to you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
