Samsung mobile chief to keep job amid declining smartphone sales

Last week it was reported that Samsung's mobile chief, J.K. Shin, could be replaced among broader restructuring efforts at the Korean tech giant. Well, it turns out that he will be keeping his job after all, according to a report by Reuters today.

It was speculated that Samsung may decide to shake-up its management in the wake of declining smartphone sales. However, according to Reuters:

Samsung Group defied expectations of a shake-up at Samsung Electronics over its sagging smartphone sales, announcing no top executive changes at the flagship affiliate in the annual management reshuffle.

In defense of keeping Shin in his current position, Samsung Group Senior Vice President Lee June simply told reporters:

President J.K. Shin is a major contributor in Samsung Electronics' emergence as the top global player in the handsets business.
