Apple's long neglected set-top box may finally get a revamp this year, but for now you can get a $25 gift card for iTunes if you don't mind buying the current hockey-puck Apple TV.

Reported by 9to5 Mac, Apple is offering a $25 iTunes Gift Card that can be redeemed at the iTunes Store, the App Store or the iBooks Store to anyone who purchases an Apple TV from now until Wednesday in an Apple online or US retail store.

The terms and conditions of the deal say it's valid while supplies last and is limited to five per household.

The idea that Apple TV would be getting a long-overdue refresh this year has also been churning in the rumor mill for some time.

Bloomberg, for example, reported earlier this month that the Apple could unveil the new box as early as April to be ready for holiday shopping, which would be an unusual timing strategy, and that the company was in talks with Time Warner Cable and other possible partners to include live channels.

But don't read the discount this week like tea leaves: Apple tends to keeps its hands off pricing until after new versions of its products are unveiled.
