So what can we expect? According to rumors, a new design, an improved camera, a better screen and possibly an octa-core processor. What the rumors can't seem to agree on is whether the next-gen handset will be the One M9 or the much hinted-at "Hima."

All of the rumors are purely speculative at this point, but CNET editors Andrew Hoyle and Roger Cheng will be bringing you all the details, photos and commentary from the event, which kicks off at 4 p.m. Sunday local time, which is 7 a.m. PT, 10 a.m. ET, 3 p.m. UK, 11 p.m. in Singapore and 2 a.m. Monday in Sydney. Rumored specs

We can't know for sure what's in store for HTC's next-gen handset, but according to information we obtained from Chinese site MyDrivers, we may be looking at a 5.5-inch display with 2,560x1,440-pixel resolution, and storage capacities of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.

Reportedly powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB RAM, the One M9 may also pack a 3,500mAh battery. Like its predecessor, the handset could employ dual front-facing speakers, possibly with Bose technology.

Another rumor from Twitter source @upleaks says HTC's next-gen monster could instead be the 5-inch "Hima." Alleged to boast an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor (comprising four 2GHz cores and four 1.5GHz cores) with 3GB RAM.

No more UltraPixels?

Interestingly, we have conflicting reports about the camera as well. According to Chinese site MyDrivers, it appears that HTC may be ready to pull the plug on UltraPixels, its proprietary marketing name for describing its camera tech. Instead, the One M9 is said to feature a 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization. We might have seen this coming, as most HTC smartphones released in wake of the M8 offered megapixels, not ultrapixels.

A separate rumor from Twitter source @upleaks says the rear camera could pack a 20.7-megapixel shooter. Around front, this tipster says either a 13-megapixel or 4-megapixel "UltraPixel" camera could make selfie files larger and more detailed.

Obviously, nobody knows for sure what the camera specs will be exactly, but all will become clear on March 1 at the event.

What about design and operating system?

Reports from Bloomberg suggest that the new phone will look similar to the current M8 model, draped in gold, gray or silver. There are also rumors the glass screen will extend all the way out to each side.

As for the operating system, even with all the conflicting rumors about specs and the camera, most seem to agree that HTC's next handset will run Android 5.0 Lollipop with HTC's Sense 7.0 custom user interface.

M9 or Hima, we'll closely track any other rumors that bubble up in the next couple of days, but join our live blog of the event Sunday to get all the answers.
