Monday is the deadline to enroll under the Affordable Care Act but the website ran into trouble accepting new applications due to a technical glitch.

After early morning delays attributed to regular maintenance, a technical problem then hit the site sometime around noon, Eastern Time.

The government says that fix is in the works. Health and Human Services spokesman Aaron Albright said that the government's troubleshooters have identified an issue they believe is preventing consumers from creating new account.

"The tech team monitoring HealthCare.gov in real time has identified an issue with users creating new accounts. The application and enrollment tools are unavailable to new users at the moment," said Albright. "The tech team is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible."

The six-month enrollment window to sign up for coverage is Monday midnight.
