A tall, cool drink in a frosty glass is never far away with a refrigerator nearby. Assuming of course, that one put a tall, room-temperature beverage glass into the fridge or freezer to begin with. Naturally, this is no guarantee, as taking up valuable freezer space for chilled glasses can prove to be difficult. But the wait is usually worth it, so the ice cream and freezer pops get shoved aside for drinkware standing at the ready. There is, however, a way to have your ice cream cake and drink with it, too.

The Vinotemp Il Romanzo CO2 Glass Chiller ($399; model: IL-CO2FROST) is a countertop contrivance that chills glasses instantly. No need for a refrigerator or freezer, the CO2-powered drink accessory provides a finishing touch for serving drinks that requires no planning ahead. Designed for use with liquid CO2, the device is meant to be attached to an existing flat surface such as a countertop or tabletop. The CO2 tank or cylinder then stores underneath.

In use, the drink gadget makes for an impressive display; place a dry glass underneath the bell-shaped hood and press the switch to release the CO2. Instantly, the glass transforms from a dry, room-temperature drinking vessel to one that looks as if it had been waiting patiently in the freezer until such time that it was called into action. Looks like the ice cream doesn't have to share space after all.
