4.85mm thick Oppo R5 heads to India for Rs. 29,990

After making its official debut in the month of October, the Oppo R5 is heading to India. The handset will be available for pre-booking in the country from January 1, 2015 and will set users back Rs. 29,990 ($470).

With a thickness of just 4.85mm, the Oppo R5 is the Chinese manufacturer's thinnest smartphone to date. The recent influx of svelte smartphones means that the Oppo R5 has to contend with the likes of Vivo X5 Max and Gionee's Elife S5.1 in India.

Specs of the Oppo R5 include a 5.2-inch full-HD screen, 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC (quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU), Adreno 405 GPU, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory, 13 MP camera at the back, 5 MP shooter at the front, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0 and a 2,000 mAh battery. In terms of software, the device runs Color OS 2.0 atop Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

Also included is 4G connectivity, which is now becoming more and more common in this segment as 4G services begin mainstream rollout. The focus on making the device as thin as possible means that there is a noticeable bump at the back where the camera sensor is located.

Oppo mentions that the R5 also comes with a quick charge feature (VOOC) through which "a 30-minute charge will provide 75% battery life and a five-minute charge will allow for a two-hour call."
